Ashok Leyland, the second largest commercial vehicles manufacturer in India, informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on March 29, 2016 that the company has won a Defence contract worth Rs 800 crore from the Indian armed forces for supply of advanced-technology products - 450 units of field artillery tractors (FAT) 6x6 and other similar Super Stallion vehicles; and 825 units of Ambulances 4x4.
Ashok Leyland is the flagship company of the Hinduja Group and is currently the largest supplier of logistics vehicles to the Indian Army.
According to Vinod K Dasari, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland, “The orders for Field Artillery Tractor (FAT) 6x6 and Ambulance 4x4 are in keeping with the momentum witnessed recently in the area of upgradation of technology and resources by the Defence forces.
