A firm trend during the major portion of the week notwithstanding, billets failed to maintain the tempo and declined sharply in major markets on the last day of the week ending January 23.

Lack of growth in demand has become a major issue for manufacturers and traders alike, but everyone seems to be optimistic that the situation would improve in the current quarter.
