Brazilian crude steel production rose 5.1% year-on-year to 5.65Mt in the first two months of 2015, according to the latest figures from steel industry association IABr.
Domestic steel sales reached 3.12Mt in January-February, down 12.2% compared to the same period of last year, IABr said in a release.
Steel exports in the period totaled 1.76Mt, worth US$1.09bn, which was a 22.7% increase in volume and a 6.1% hike in value, according to the association.
Brazil recorded 696,000t of steel imports in the first two months of this year, which was a 24% year-on-year increase.
Apparent domestic steel consumption reached 3.8Mt, falling 7.4%.
Home to steelmakers such as Gerdau, Usiminas and CSN, Brazil is Latin America's biggest steel producer.
