China’s crude steel output fell 3.5% from the year prior and down 1.7% from July to 66.94 million tonnes in August, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistic (NBS) on September 13.
Average daily crude steel output dropped 1.89% from July to 2.16 million tonnes in August, as producers cut output in the wake of falling prices and the government’s request to reduce pollutions.
Over January-August, total crude steel output posted a drop of 2% on year to 543.02 million tonnes, the NBS data showed.
Meanwhile, total output of steel products rose 1.5% year on year to 745.45 million tonnes during the same period, while that of pig iron decreased 3.2% on year to 471.16 million tonnes, data showed.
In August, China produced 94.5 million tonnes of steel products, rising 0.4% on year but down 2.4% on month; while output from pig iron fell 5.1% on year but up 0.49% from July to 57.61 million tonnes.
