Steel imports through Cochin Port were at 14,884 tons in February 2016, up 13.46% from 13,118 tons imported in January 2016, as per provisional information available with ISMW.
Steel imports via the port stood at 154,103 tons during the first 11 months (April-February) of 2015-16, showing a fall of 10.13% in comparison to 171,477 tons imported during the same period in 2014-15.
However, 14,150 tons of steel was imported via the port in February 2015.

Of 14,884 tons imported in February 2016, a volume of 98 tons of other flat products were imported from China, 993 tons of pipes and tubes came in from China, Vietnam and UAE, 12,058 tons of scrap were imported from Australia, Bahrain, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa, UAE and the US, a volume of 1,473 tons of value-added products were imported from China, 69 tons of wires and wire rods came from China, 18 tons of CR products from Poland, 75 tons of plates and slabs from Ukraine, 33 tons of HR products from Romania and 67 tons of tin plates and TMBT from South Korea.
Of 13,118 tons imported in January 2016, a volume of 349 tons of other flat products were imported from China, 323 tons of pipes and tubes came in from China and Vietnam, 9,819 tons of scrap were imported from Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, UAE, UK, Singapore and the US, a volume of 2,211 tons of value-added products were imported from China, 159 tons of wires and wire rods from the China, France and UAE, 32 tons of CR products from Germany, Poland and Taiwan, 0.39 tons of long products from Canada. A volume of 14 tons of “other products” came from Germany and the US, 202 tons of plates and slabs arrived from China and Singapore, 8 tons of HR products from Germany, Poland and Taiwan and 0.13 tons of stainless steel products from Japan and Sweden.
