India Coal Market Watch
October 1: Demand for domestic met coke has weakened as Indian steel makers are procuring the material from overseas, prompted by the falling prices in international markets, industry sources said.
Imported met coke offers to India are also falling owing to sluggish demand and rupee depreciation, an official in a met coke company said.
Domestic met coke prices are quoting at Rs 13,000-14,500 per ton ex-plant.
The official said currently 64% CSR BF grade met coke from China is quoted at $141-142 per ton CFR India for October 2015 shipments and lesser CSR levels are available at $139-140 per ton CFR.
Thus imported met coke is available at lower cost than that of local coke makers, making life difficult for the domestic coke makers, the official said.
