According to the World Steel Association, global steel production for October for the 65 countries reporting to the organization stands at 137 million metric tons, unchanged from figures the same time last year.
Crude steel production for China, the largest producer of crude steel, stood at 67.5 million metric tons in October, a 0.3 percent decline from the same time last year.
Elsewhere in Asia, Japan produced 9.4 million metric tons of crude steel for the month, a decrease of -0.5 percent compared to October 2013. South Korea produced 6.2 million metric tons of crude steel in October 2014, up 4.5 percent from October 2013.
In the European Union, Germany produced 3.5 million metric tons of crude steel in October 2014, a decline of 5.9 percent compared to October 2013. Italy produced 2.1 million metric tons of crude steel, a drop of 5.4 percent from October 2013. France’s crude steel production was 1.5 million metric tons, an increase of 15.0 percent compared to October 2013. Spain produced 1.3 million metric tons of crude steel, down 0.4 percent compared to October 2013.
Turkey’s crude steel production for October 2014 was 2.7 million metric tons, down 11 percent from October 2013.
In the Americas, the United States produced 7.3 million metric tons of crude steel in October 2014, a decrease of 0.7 percent compared to October 2013.
Brazil’s crude steel production for October 2014 was 3.1 million metric tons, up by 2.7 percent on October 2013.
The crude steel capacity utilization ratio for the 65 countries in October 2014 was 74.7 percent, a decline of 2.6 percent from last October. Further, compared to the previous month the utilization rate is down 1.4 percent.
