India's steel production capacity has provisionally risen to 116.74 million tons per annum (mtpa) till December 2015, registering a growth of 6.27% as compared to a capacity of 109.85 mtpa as on March 2015, as per data compiled by the Ministry of Steel.
India is the 3rd largest crude steel producer in the world in 2015 as per provisional rankings released by the World Steel Association (WSA).
There has been 6.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in steel production capacity in the country during from the years 2012-13 to 2014-15 and the trend is likely to continue during 2015-16 and increase thereafter, Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said.
