JSW Steel Limited’s March production stood at 1.27 million tons (mt), which is its highest-ever monthly production.
The company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that the record increase happened on the back of its Vijaynagar plant started production again and achieving production and despatches in excess of 1 mt in March 2016.
Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Steel’s blast furnaces at Vijaynagar, Dolvi and Salem, which were shut down for capacity enhancement during October-December, 2015-16, are operational now.
Crude steel production stood at 12.56 mt in 2015-16, down 1% compared to 12.63 mt in 2014-15. The official release explained that the shortfall took place because of delay in re- commencement in blast furnaces in post-capital shut down.
During January to March, 2015-16, crude steel production stood at 3.20 mt, up 5% from 3.06 mt in the same quarter of 2014-15.
The company achieved 94% of the production guidance of 13.4 mt, given at the beginning of 2015-16.
