The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) recorded an increase in rubber and iron ore export in the year 2014, reports said on Wednesday. The CBL in its annual report said despite the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease that affected the nation’s economy, export earnings in rubber and iron ore increased by 0.3 and 21.0 percent respectively in 2014.
The earnings from the export of rubber in 2014 increased to $560.8 million, compared to $558.9 million in 2013.
According to the CBL annual report, iron ore export earnings amounted to $380. 2 million in 2014, compared to $314.2 million in 2013.
The report also indicated a 30.4 percent decline in the price of rubber or $1,944.8 per metric ton of rubber in 2014, compared to $2,794.6 in 2013.
The decline in the price of rubber on the world market also affected the nation’s economy, the report said.
