Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), the largest car manufacturer in India, informed that total sales (domestic plus exports) increased 10.6% to 1,429,248 units in financial year 2015-16 compared to 1,292,415 units in 2014-15.
The sales were led by new model offerings, including the Baleno and Brezza launched in October and March, respectively. The company also informed that new technologies such as Smart Hybrid Technology by Suzuki (SHVS), expansion of network and introduction of NEXA, (premium retail channel of Maruti) brought the incremental sales numbers.
Domestic sales rose 14.6% to 118,895 units in March 2016 from 103,719 units in March 2015. Exports of the company increased 33.4% to 10,450 units in March 2016 compared to 7,836 units in March 2015.
The utility vehicle segment was the top performer, which includes models like Gypsy, S-Cross, Ertiga and Vitara Brezza. It grew 123.4% in the last month of 2015-16 to 138,940 units compared to 6,218 units a year ago.
The passenger car segment, which includes the top selling models like Alto, WagonR and Dzire Tour, remained a strong performer and registered a growth of 7.4% to 92,105 units in March 2016 against 85,733 units in March 2015.
