On the last day of financial year 2015-16, the metal index edged down after a 3% jump on March 30.
Stock market traders explained that metal stocks continued to face profit-booking.
On March 31, Tata Steel was down 2.28%, HINDALCO and Vedanta were also down 1.2-1.5%. However, all the metal stocks were up 5-6% on March 30.
The S&P BSE Metal index increased 58.27 points (0.77%) to close at 7,540.75 on March 31 from the previous closing of 7,343.78. The highs and lows on March 31 were 7,676.77 and 7,497.95 respectively.
On March 31, global markets such as DAX and FTSE all were trading marginally up. Following the same trend, the Sensex also went up.
The Sensex increased 3.28 points (0.01%) to close at 25,341.86.
Most stocks on the S&P BSE Metal closed in the green on Thursday. The maximum gain was registered by Hindustan Zinc, with the stock increasing 4.77% to close at Rs 183.5. The maximum loss was registered by Vedanta, with the stock, decreasing 1.96% to close at Rs 89.9.
