Mexico imposed antidumping duties on imports of hot-rolled carbon steel plate from China.
The economy ministry set the duties at 33.98% following an investigation brought after a complaint by Mexican steelmaker Ahmsa in April 2013.
The probe found imports of the product at below fair value posed a threat to local producers. The Chinese imports were sold at prices 11-18% lower than plate produced in Mexico and 28-42% below imports from other countries, the resolution said.
Initial antidumping duties of 33.98% were imposed in January. The product's main uses include construction of steel tube and oil platforms.
Imports at less than fair value are seen as a key threat to Mexico's steel sector, with China viewed as a major culprit.
The ministry imposed antidumping duties on imports of steel mesh from the country earlier in October and launched an investigation into imports of hot-rolled steel from China, Germany and France in September.
