Morgan Steel is nearly doubling its space to house all the steel it eventually sells to manufacturers across the region.
The company filed for two construction permits, with a total value of $800,000, to add 40,000 square feet of warehouse space at 1207 Riverside, said Chris Morgan, 36, who is managing partner with his brother, Scott, 39.
The facility, now 43,000 square feet, had been the site of Industrial Tank Builders.
"We're adding to our existing building,'' Chris said Monday. "We've been here a couple of years... It got to a point where we are having to stock some stuff outside. It's not good to put your steel outside to get weathered.''
Morgan Steel primarily sells carbon structural steel to manufacturing companies within about a 250-mile radius of Memphis.
Their two companies, Morgan Steel and Morgan Trucking, employ more than 50 people.
