India's non-alloy flat steel imports surged by 40.8% in April-December 2015, neutralising the measures taken by the government to check cheap inbound shipments, latest steel ministry data showed.
Non-alloy flat steel imports were at 5.80 million tons as in April-December 2015 as against 4.12 million tons in April-December 2014, the data showed.
Imports of HR coils rose 95.9% to 2.60 million tons during the period, while imports of plates rose 43.7% to 739,100 tons during April-December, 2015. GP/GC sheet imports rose 21.3% to 402,900 tons, while CR coil/sheet imports rose 21.4% to 1.50 million tons during the period.
