: Paradip Port handled 2.33 million tons (mt) of iron ore pellets during 2015-16 surpassing the previous record of 1.60 mt during 2013-14, port source told ISMW.
The eastern coast port achieved an all-time high cargo volume of 76.38 mt during financial year 2015-16 as against the previous year’s traffic of 71.01 mt, registering a growth of 7.56%.
Paradip Port mechanically handled a record 23.76 mt of thermal coal during 2015-16, an increase of 11.39% compared to the previous year’s record of 21.33 mt. Moreover, 20.56 mt of POL was handled during 2015-16 surpassing the previous record of 17.97 mt in 2014-15.
Incidentally, by virtue of this performance, Paradip Port retains its second position in cargo handling among all major ports consecutively for the last 3 years.
Record cargo was handled in March not only month-wise but day-wise too. A record 7.61 mt of cargo was handled during March 2016, surpassing the previous record of 7.09 mt handled in February 2016. Also, a record 4.20 lakh tons of cargo was handled in a day during March 2016, surpassing the previous record of 4.02 lakh tons.
