Domestic steel consumption will increase to about 20 million tonnes in 2020, from 12.2 million tonnes in 2014, said Economy Minister Janusz Piechociński.
“In 2020, unless anything unexpected happens, steel consumption will increase to 20 million tonnes,” Piechociński, who is also deputy Prime Minster said.
Consumption of steel products in Poland amounted to 12.2 million tonnes in 2014, up 17 percent over 2013.
Piechociński added that every one-million-tonne increase in steel production will require an increase in coal demand by two million tonnes.
At the same time, the Economy Minister reported that Indian steel conglomerate ArcelorMittal plans to overhaul its blast furnace steel mill in Kraków, and added this investment was thanks to discussions with the Economy Ministry.
