October 14: In September, the volume of steel imports doubled compared to the previous month of August, albeit on a very low base. Imports stood at 100 tons September while the same was at 47 tons in August as per provisional information available with ISMW. However, none of these figures were close to import volumes in July, which were at 5,342 tons.
In the first six months (April to September) of the current fiscal of 2015-16, imports were at 10,893 tons against 94 tons in the same period of the previous fiscal. There were no imports of the material in August 2014.
Imports of the commodity have been scant throughout the last financial year of 2014-15 with the total being at a mere 115 tons.

In September 2015, the entire volume of 100 tons comprised scrap and arrived at an average price of Rs 19,392 per ton.
In August, the entire volume of 47 tons comprised scrap and arrived at an average price of Rs. 19,190 per ton.
