Union Steel Secretary Aruna Sundararajan, on March 31, inaugurated Convertor-A of Steel Melt Shop-1 of RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
The convertor was repaired after a gap of 25 years to increase productivity, at an investment of Rs 380 crore.
This is part of capital repairs and modernisation of blast furnaces and other old facilities to enhance production by one million tons, at an investment of over Rs 5,000 crore.
The convertor was revamped by introducing latest technologies without changing the original layout.
The job was successfully carried out with strict adherence to the safety and environmental norms.
During her plant visit, Sundararajan visited the model room and awards gallery and the major production units like coke oven battery, blast furnace-3 and wire rod mill-2.
RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan explained to her the technical know-how incorporated in the plant.
