U.S. Steel has notified the state of Ohio and city of Lorain it plans to indefinitely idle all operations at its Seamless Tubular Operations plant in Lorain. The closing will affect 250 workers, who will be laid off as soon as May 24, U.S. Steel told the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services in a letter on Monday. "This action is a result of weak tubular market conditions, including continued high levels of imported tubular products, which are impacting demand for the facility's products," Timothy Mosby, senior director for employee relations with U.S. Steel, wrote in a Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification, or WARN Act notice, sent to the state.
