Venezuela's crude steel production in February totaled 145,000 mt, up 19% from 122,000 mt produced in the year-ago month, estimates from the World Steel Association showed Tuesday.
The figure is down 9% compared with output of 159,000 mt in January, however.
Venezuela's monthly production was the third highest in South America, behind Brazil and Argentina, with 2,681 million mt, and 377,000 mt, respectively.
From the accumulated 313,000 mt of the first two months of the year, Sidor was responsible for 241,303 mt, 79% of the country's total production.
Sidor is Venezuela's largest steelmaker, with an annual liquid steel production capacity of 5.1 million mt. It makes flats, longs and tubes.
Besides Sidor, the country is home to steelmakers Complejo Siderurgico Nacional and Gerdau Sizuca, and tube maker Empresa Socialista Batalla de San Felix, formerly Tavsa.
