In September 2021, the Brazilian production of crude steel was 3.1 million tons, an increase of 15.3% compared to the same month in 2020, according to data from the local steel institute Aço Brasil.
Rolled steel production was 2.1 million tons, 8.5% more than in September, 2020. The production of semi-finished goods for sales was 695,000 metric tons, an increase of 52.3% compared to the same month in 2020*.
Domestic sales increased 1.2% compared to September, 2020, reaching 1.9 million tons. Apparent consumption of steel products was 2.2 million metric tons, 8.5% higher than in the same period of the previous year.
Exports for September were 949 thousand tons, or US﹩ 942 million, which resulted in an increase of 26.6% and 150.1%, respectively, compared to the same month in 2020.
September 2021 imports were 358 thousand tons and US﹩ 414 million, up 151.1% in quantum and 139.4% in value when compared to that recorded in September 2020.
Year-to-date
In the accumulated from January to September 2021, the Brazilian production of crude steel was 27.2 million tons in , which represents an increase of 20.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. The production of rolled products in the same period was 20.1 million tons, an increase of 28.7% compared to the same period in 2020. The production of semi-finished products for sales totaled 6.2 million tons from January through September 2021, an increase of 6.3% on the same basis of comparison*.
Domestic sales were 17.9 million tons from January through September 2021, a 29.7% increase when compared to the same period of the previous year.
The national apparent consumption of steel products was 21.0 million tons in the year to September 2021. This result represents a 37.3% increase compared to the same period in 2020.
Imports reached 3.9 million tons in the accumulated to September, 2021, an increase of 162.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. In value, imports reached US﹩ 3.6 billion and advanced 126.7% in the same comparison period.
