The Essar project aims to become the region’s
first Green Steel project, setting global standards for CO2 reduction.
Desert Technologies (DT), an
independent solar PV and smart infrastructure company, has partnered with Essar
Group to develop renewable energy solutions for the Green Steel Arabia (GSA)
project in Saudi Arabia. The partnership was formalised with a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) signed at the G20 summit in New Delhi on September 11,
2023.
Under this collaboration, DT and
Essar will focus on renewable energy generation and storage solutions for
Essar’s Flat Steel Complex in Saudi Arabia, the GCC region’s first green steel
project.

Investments, expressed the company’s commitment to meeting the rising demand
for renewable energy solutions, particularly in Saudi Arabia. He highlighted
the significance of its solutions in the renewable energy sector and its role
in advancing the low CO2 emission steel industry.

Essar Group in Saudi Arabia, emphasised the partnership’s role in accessing
green energy and carbon-free energy storage solutions, aligning with Essar’s
commitment to a low carbon footprint and local content development in Saudi
Arabia.
The Essar project aims to become
the region’s first Green Steel project, setting global standards for CO2
reduction. It will feature a direct reduced iron (DRI) capacity of 5.0 million
metric tonnes per annum (mtpa), including two modules of 2.50 mtpa each, and
4.0 mtpa hot strip capacity, along with 1.0 million tonnes of cold rolling
capacity and galvanizing and tin plate lines. This facility will serve various
industries, including construction, oil & gas, automotive, packaging, and
general engineering, in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals and steel
product demand
