Nippon
Steel and U.S. Steel officials recently met with Gov. Eric Holcomb while
mounting a campaign for a $14.9 billion merger.
The Japanese steelmaker dispatched Vice Chairman/Executive Vice
President Takahiro Mori to meet with American officials to drum up support
for the acquisition, which has faced bipartisan opposition.
"Productive meeting with Vice Chairman Mori and Nippon
Steel. Joined by U.S. Steel, we discussed American competitiveness and how we
can work together to innovate and support #Hoosier jobs," Holcomb tweeted after
the July 10 meeting.
Nippon Steel already has two small operations in Indiana: a
steel pipe plant in Seymour and a steel wire plant and sales office in
Shelbyville.
